Peter R. Leone is counsel in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm's Boston office. He is a member of the Health Department. The principal focus of his practice is the representation of hospitals, nursing facilities and other health care providers in financial reimbursement, licensure and other regulatory matters, including regulatory compliance.
More specifically, Peter has represented hospitals and other providers in Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement matters and appeals, including formal reimbursement appeals to the Medicare Provider Reimbursement Review Board, in the review of those appeals by the CMS Administrator, and in judicial review of those cases. Peter has also represented hospitals and other providers in determination of need, licensure and compliance proceedings. Recent experience includes state regulatory change of ownership proceedings for hospitals, and for nursing home chains in "going private" transactions.
Peter is an advanced member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and has been active in the organization's affairs as a board member and member of its Committees. He has spoken and written extensively on reimbursement and regulatory matters affecting hospitals, nursing homes and other providers.
