Peter J. Drobac is a partner in the Silicon Valley office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. Peter is a member of the Firm’s Trial department, where he specializes in complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense.
Prior to joining the Firm, Peter was the Assistant General Counsel for a division of Honeywell International, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona, where he managed litigation, negotiated complex, domestic and international sales and licensing agreements and counseled the business concerning a variety of matters, including antitrust, compliance, product safety, merger and acquisition and import/export. Prior to that, Peter was a partner and co-founder of a general practice law firm in Santa Cruz, California, emphasizing civil litigation, business transactions and real estate law. Peter began his legal career as an attorney at a firm in San Francisco, California, where he gained significant litigation experience in trademarks and copyrights, contracts, securities, bankruptcy, unfair competition and other business torts.
Peter has litigated cases in both state and federal courts, arbitrated successfully before the NASD, prosecuted trademarks before the Patent and Trademark Office and successfully litigated before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Peter’s broad-based intellectual property litigation experience also includes numerous cases involving right of publicity claims, including the reported decision of Gionfriddo v. Major League Baseball, 94 Cal. App. 4th 400 (2001). Peter was also awarded the 2002 Artistic Freedom Award by the American Civil Liberties Union for his work in the successful pro bono representation of photographer Thomas Forsythe in a well-publicized copyright and trademark infringement case.
Peter is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Northern and Central Districts of California.
