Pete is a litigator with a proven track record of trying cases and litigating disputes on behalf of a diverse range of clients. He is a member of the firm’s Business, Corporate and Commercial Litigation group, the Insurance Recovery group, the Construction group and the firm’s Labor & Employment group. Pete also represents several large hospitals in Medicare reimbursement disputes with the U.S. Government. Pete has a deep understanding of all facets of trial and appellate practice from both the plaintiff and defendant perspective. He has appeared in federal and state courts throughout Ohio and the United States on behalf of clients involved in a variety of significant disputes. Pete’s recent accomplishments include:Pursuing a successful challenge to the constitutionality of a state sales tax imposed on national television distribution companies, resulting in a savings to the companies’ customers of over 20 million dollars on an annual basis. Winning a jury verdict of 2.5 million dollars in a breach of contract dispute. Successfully defending large energy company in price conversion dispute involving natural gas futures traded on a national futures exchange. Recovering several multi-million dollar settlements in contract and construction disputes. Additionally, Pete has counseled and represented clients on insurance recovery issues. Pete recently led a litigation team in the filing of lawsuits seeking to enforce surety performance bonds associated with several large construction projects throughout Ohio. Pete also has jury trial experience defending employers against work place injury claims and has obtained several favorable results for employers investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration following workplace fatalities. Pete is an active member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations. He served as a law clerk for The Honorable Peggy Bryant in the Tenth District Court of Appeals before joining Calfee in 1998. Pete became a partner with the firm in 2007 |
