Pete Montaño is vice president of sales for Contract Freighters, Inc. (CFI), Con-way’s recently acquired truckload operation. CFI is a leader in truckload and intermodal services throughout North America. As vice president of sales for CFI, a Con-way Company, Montaño oversees sales in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
CFI is a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), a $4.7 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in San Mateo, Calif. Con-way delivers industry-leading services through its primary operating companies of Con-way Freight, CFI, and Menlo Worldwide Logistics. These operating units provide less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload; as well as logistics, warehousing and supply chain management services; and trailer manufacturing. Con-way Inc. and its subsidiaries operate from more than 500 locations across North America and in 17 countries across five continents.
As executive vice president of sales for Contract Freighters, Inc., Pete Montaño is responsible for the strategic sales planning and training for all sales in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as for the success of the sales force at CFI and CFI de Mexico. With over 17 years of service with CFI, he has been actively involved in expanding CFI’s service offerings to its customers, including dedicated operations and regional services.
Mr. Montaño began his 26-year career in the transportation industry working with Roadway Express, where he was in charge of sales in seven western states in the U.S. and Mexico. He joined CFI in January 1990 as director of sales for Mexico. In 1993, he was named vice president of sales and marketing, handling 50% of sales at CFI. In 1996, he became responsible for 100% of sales management and strategic planning.
Under Mr. Montaño’s guidance, the Mexico division has grown to 40% of CFI’s total revenues. The company now operates over 2,700 tractors and more than 8,600 trailers, and delivers industry-leading full truckload service to shippers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. CFI was one of the first carriers to establish truckload operations in Mexico, and has been recognized for its excellence in export service. CFI received the President’s E and E-Star Awards. The company is also ISO 9001-2000 certified.
Mr. Montaño earned a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is based out of CFI’s headquarters in Joplin, Mo. |
