Pearl Markovitz, Vice President, joined JHP in 2003 after a lengthy career in education on both the secondary and post-secondary levels. Certified in English and ESL, Pearl taught all levels of high school English language and Literature and introduced several innovative courses into the curriculum. The New York City Board of Education selected her to receive the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Office of the Superintendent of Queens. Pearl's administrative accomplishments include directing a federally funded European Retraining Program in Computers and Accounting, which was based at Adelphi University. In this capacity, she trained hundreds of recently arrived Soviet immigrants, prepared them for employment, and placed them in banks and commercial institutions. Pearl has been involved with informal adult education for many years and has received awards and citations for her achievements. She has organized monthly lecture series on behalf of Young Israel, AMIT and other community forums. As a founding member of Shalhevet Torah Institute for Women, Pearl chaired its Days of Learning project.Combining her educational and administrative experience, Pearl was instrumental in the formation of the first Gallery Educators Program at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, New York. Pearl holds both Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Queens College and a Bachelors of Education from Yeshiva University.
