Professor Workman is currently Director of the Cancer Research UK’s Centre for Cancer Therapeutics at The Institute for Cancer Research, Sutton and an associate of the Royal Marsden Hospital, the largest academic cancer drug discovery group in the world. He is also the Harrap Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in the University of London, Visiting Professor at the University of Manchester and External Professor of Cancer Pharmacology at the University of Leeds. Professor Workman has chaired a number of committees, including the Cancer Research UK Pharmacokinetic/ Pharmacodynamic Technologies Advisory Committee. He is a Scientific Founder and Board Director of Chroma Therapeutics as well as a Scientific Founder of Piramed Limited. Prof. Workman was awarded the European School of Oncology Award for Excellence in Oncology Research in 1985 and the NDDO Award for contributions to cancer drug development in 2006. He has published over 360 research articles and edited several books and journals in the oncology field. He was responsible for the biologic development of Iressa, which is now approved in lung cancer, and has also been responsible for or closely associated with a number of drugs entering the clinic. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Leeds in 1977. |
