Paul Maher is a recognised leader in corporate law and has considerable experience in cross-border mergers and acquisitions work, advising a wide range of domestic and international clients. Often praised for his innovative work and his ability to get the deal done, he has advised clients operating in many different sectors including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, financial services, information services, retail and communications.
Paul is highly recommended by both of the leading independent guides to the legal industry, Chambers UK and the UK Legal 500 (which in its 2007 edition called him "one of the most distinguished M&A practitioners") and was ranked as one of the three most innovative lawyers in the UK by the Financial Times in 2006. Paul featured in "The Lawyer's Hot 100 Survey 2007," a list of practitioners who have enhanced the reputation of their firms and in June 2007 he was named "Partner of the Year" at The Lawyer Awards.
Paul is Global Vice-Chairman and serves on the Policy & Planning Committee, which governs Mayer Brown's global practice. Paul was head of the London office corporate group from 1996 until 2007 and Senior Partner of the London office from 2003 until 2007. Paul joined Mayer Brown in 1990 and was named partner in 1992. He was named Vice Chairman in 2007. Before joining the firm he was with ICI from 1984 to1990.

Advised AstraZeneca in connection with its equity investment in the AIM-listed Silence Therapeutics.
Advised AstraZeneca Plc and its subsidiary Cambridge Antibody Technology Limited in the disposal by CAT of its Humira® royalty stream to Royalty Pharma.
Advised the shareholders of The Mergermarket Group on their agreement to sell the entire issued share capital of the company to Pearson PLC.
Advised ICI PLC on its agreement to sell its Uniqema manufacturing unit to Croda International PLC.
Advised Bear Stearns and BSG Insurance Holdings, a subsidiary of Bear Stearns, on the acquisition of Minster Insurance Services for an undisclosed sum from Groupama UK.
Advised senior management on the sale of Financial Dynamics to FTI Consulting Inc.
Advised Cambridge Antibody Technology Group plc on its recommended cash offer by AstraZeneca for its entire issued and to be issued share capital.
Advised Etex SA on the disposal of its Thermalite division to Hanson.
Advised Danske Bank on its acquisition of Northern Bank and National Irish Bank from National Australia Bank.
