Paul focuses on technology investments, most notably software, as well as systems and security. He has more than twenty-five years of software experience and over nineteen years experience in venture capital. He currently serves on the boards of Amp Resources LLC, Avidyne , BluTarp Financial , Imprivata , Performix Technologies , Relicore , Village Ventures and VistaPrint. Paul is a former director of Avid Technology (Nasdaq:AVID), CheckFree (Nasdaq:CKFR), Chipcom, HighGround Systems (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Mainspring (acquired by IBM), SCH (acquired by Legato Systems), SQA (acquired by Rational Corporation), Sybase (Nasdaq:SYBS) and WebLine Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems). Before co-founding Highland, Paul was a general partner at a Boston-based venture capital partnership where he concentrated on software investments. Prior to entering venture capital, he held operating positions for six years in high-growth technology companies. At Novacor Corporation he managed several projects in the development of an implantable artificial heart. Later, Paul was responsible for the development of a complex visual field examination instrument at Synemed Corporation where he also headed the company's mechanical engineering and software development. Paul earned a B.S.E., Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, an M.S., Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. |
