Paul Champagne Biography :

Paul T. Champagne is president of PPL Energy Services Group. He is responsible for the company’s mechanical contracting companies, renewable energy projects, synthetic fuel operations and corporate business development. He also leads PPLSolutions, which provides a range of services for competitive retail energy suppliers.

Champagne joined PPL in 1995 as vice president and senior development officer of PPL Global, the PPL subsidiary that owns and operates energy delivery businesses in the United Kingdom and develops new generating capacity in selected U.S. markets. As senior development officer, he developed and acquired more than $2 billion in fossil-fueled and hydroelectric projects and invested or committed more than $700 million in distribution assets worldwide.

He was appointed president of PPL Global in May 1999. He became president of PPL EnergyPlus in October 2001. PPL EnergyPlus markets the electricity generated by PPL’s domestic power plants, making sales in key U.S. regions and marketing electricity to retail customers in the eastern and western United States. In July 2006, he became president of PPL Energy Services Group. Before joining PPL, Champagne served for six years in several business development roles, including that of Midwest regional manager, at Edison Mission Energy, where he was responsible for acquisitions and greenfield development opportunities. At Edison Mission Energy, he developed $400 million in projects that employ both coal- and gas-based technologies. Earlier, as a research engineer with the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina, Champagne consulted with the Electric Power Research Institute and a variety of domestic utilities on technical and financial feasibility analyses.

A native of Madison, Wis., Champagne earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and completed master’s course work in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois.
