Paul J. Marangos Ph.D. Consultant Dr. Marangos was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He Graduated from Rhode Island College in 1969 with a BA in Biology. He received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry at the University of Rhode Island in 1973 and spent three years as a post- doctoral fellow at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. This was followed by 12 years at The National Institutes of Health where he rose to the position of Chief of Neurochemistry at the Biological Psychiatry Branch. There he established an international reputation in the field of drug development. He was adjunct professor of biochemistry at The George Washington University School of Medicine for 8 years. He has authored over 250 peer reviewed original papers on drug development and edited four books on the subject. He is a recipient of several research awards including the A.E. Bennett award for research in biological psychiatry in 1980, and is the founding editor of the Journal of Molecular Neuroscience. Since 1987 Dr. Marangos has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry serving as co-founder and CEO of six life science companies, two of which have gone public, and most recently a wireless technology company. He originated seven business plans and raised over $150 million in public and private equity capital for these companies. He has successfully completed two merger transactions, one involving two public companies and the second a public and a private company. He has also completed several in and out-licensing deals. Over his twenty-one years as an executive in the drug development business he has had extensive experience in all aspects of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology business including drug discovery, clinical research, extensive negotiations with the FDA, and all aspects of corporate operations and governance. Dr Marangos therefore has a breath of experience in virtually every aspect of translating science into a marketed product. This constellation of experience can be an asset to a wide range of emerging companies from both the business strategy perspective as well as in capitalization strategies. Dr. Marangos currently lives in Carlsbad California with his wife of 39 years, Maia. He has three grown children: Peter, Victoria and Vanessa. |
