Mr. Murphy joined CIPCO in August of 1989 as Manager of Administrative Services. From 1983 to 1989, he was General Manager of Guthrie County Rural Electric Cooperative, Guthrie Center, Iowa, and also served as Interim General Manager of Pella Electric Cooperative, Pella, Iowa in 1991. Mr. Murphy began his utility career in 1978 after serving as a Marketing Representative for Burroughs Corporation.
Since 1989, Mr. Murphy has performed various duties for CIPCO, including business analysis and development, rate development and property management. Other areas of concentration have included assisting with power requirement studies, development and administration of wholesale power contracts and large commercial power contract negotiations. He currently oversees CIPCO’s economic development and marketing programs.
Mr. Murphy also serves as Manager of Myriad Developers, L.C. This wholly owned subsidiary of CIPCO has participated in the development of several speculative buildings in partnership with cooperative members and communities. As Manager, he has supervised the construction, administration and marketing of the Myriad Technology Plaza, a four building complex located at the Oakdale Research Park in Coralville, Iowa.
He has served on the Iowa Capital Corporation Investment Committee, CIPCO Marketing Committee, and IAEC Marketing Committee and has held the positions of Secretary, Vice-President and President of the CIPCO Manager’s Group. Mr. Murphy has also been active on various community groups including the Marion Economic Development Company Board and the Lisbon Community School District School Board.
Mr. Murphy received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa, Master of Business Administration from the University of South Dakota, and certification as an Economic Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council.
