Patrick F. Brennan, 75, has served on theValassis Board of Directors since August 1998 where he is the Chairman of the Valassis Audit Committee and is a member of the Compensation/Stock Option Committee. After serving for 33 years in the paper industry, he retired in December 1996 as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Papers, Inc. (“CPI”), where under his leadership CPI was one of the nation’s leading paper companies. Mr. Brennan began his career at CPI in 1963 as a Merchant Sales Representative; National Merchant Sales Manager in 1971; National Publication Sales Manager in 1977; Vice President, National Publication Sales in 1982; and a corporate Vice President in 1984. It was in 1987 that he was elected Executive Vice President and to CPI’s Board of Directors. The following year he was elected President and Chief Operations Officer; and in 1993, Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Brennan is a former Chairman of the Printing and Writing Division of the American Forest & Paper Association and has served as Chairman of the Ireland Chamber of Commerce in the United States. He also served in the Navy from 1951 to1954. Mr. Brennan holds a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and has completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard School of Business. Mr. Brennan also has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Northland Cranberries, Inc.; University of Minnesota School of Engineering and Paper; Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce; and BetzDearborn, Inc. Mr. Brennan is a helpful sounding board on paper utilization and paper purchasing strategies. In addition, his experience as a CEO of a major corporation has been a tremendous asset to the Valassis Board and the corporation in general. |
