Prior to joining Suss Consulting, Mrs. Wensel served as a senior liaison official and advisor reporting to the Associate CFO for Financial Operations, Office of the Chief Financial Office, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this capacity, Mrs. Wensel was responsible for providing direction and coordination of program management initiatives, projects and evaluative studies for the preparation and audit of consolidated financial statements. She provided leadership and guidance that resulted in the Department of Agriculture obtaining the first ever clean audit opinions for all agencies and on a consolidated basis for FY 2002 and sustaining that opinion for FY 2003 and FY 2004.

In her more than 25 years of federal government experience, Mrs. Wensel has been responsible for implementing the requirements of numerous laws and regulations in financial management areas including: the Chief Financial Officers Act for financial statement reporting; the Government Performance and Results Act for strategic and annual performance planning and reporting; Federal Managers Financial Integrity Act evaluation of internal controls; Single Audit Act; Federal Financial Management Improvement Act evaluation of financial management systems; Federal Activities Inventory Reform Act for commercial activities; grants and federal assistance; debt and cash management and travel policy and reporting; and the Inspector General Act for managing, conducting, and planning audits and evaluations and audit resolution.

In addition to the USDA, Mrs. Wensel has held positions within the Farm Credit Administration (a financial institution regulator); as Assistant Inspector General for Audit responsible for managing and directing the audit and inspection function for all programs and operations and providing advice and technical assistance to management; senior staff accountant and team leader with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer of the Department of the Treasury heavily involved with implementation of the CFO Act; senior auditor and senior staff accountant with the Naval Sea Systems Command; and operating accountant and a budget analyst with the Naval Security Group Command.

Mrs. Wensel has served in numerous national and local leadership positions with the Association of Government Accountants; the Greater Washington Society of CPAs; the American Society of Military Comptrollers; and is a member of the USDA Graduate School Financial Management Advisory Board.
