Patrice Chastagner was born in Seclin (France) in 1947 and graduated from HEC (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales) in Paris.
Throughout his professional career, Mr. Chastagner has built experience and achieved success in each of the diverse segments and industries he has worked in, from consulting and cosmetics to semiconductors.
He began his career as an auditor with Arthur Andersen. In 1975, Chastagner helped launch Steelcase Strafor, a high-end office furniture manufacturer, where he was its Administrative and Financial Director.
In 1983, Chastagner joined the Revlon cosmetics group as the Financial Director of its French subsidiary. He also took on the responsibility for control of the group's financial operations in the European and Middle East regions.
Two years later, Chastagner entered the semiconductor industry as the Financial Director for Thomson's semiconductor subsidiary EFCIS and has since climbed the corporate ladder within the Company as he has earned positions of increasing responsibility.
After the 1987 merger of Thomson Semiconducteurs and SGS Microelettronica, Chastagner was appointed Grenoble Site Director. He played an important role in combining and organizing new Company's activities in Grenoble and succeeded in streamlining its activities. From 1987 to 2004, Chastagner contributed significantly to the development of the Company's activities in the Grenoble area, creating one of the most important hubs in Europe for advanced, complex silicon-chip development and solutions, with more than 5,000 highly skilled engineers working there. In 1989, Chastagner initiated the creation of a new site in the nearby area of Crolles, which later became ST´s important R&D center.
Between 1997 and 2003, Chastagner managed Human Relations in the Company's largest product group, Telecommunication, Peripherals, and Automotive (TPA). As a TQM Champion, he also advocated ST´s commitment to continuous improvement.
In 2003, Chastagner was appointed Chairman of STMicroelectronics S.A., the French subsidiary of the Group.
On January, 1st, 2005 Patrice Chastagner was promoted to the position of Corporate Vice President Human Resources, responsible for the Company's most valuable asset: its approximately 50,000 employees of more than 86 different nationalities located in 31 countries.
Chastagner also chairs the Association of Metallurgical and Electrical Industries (UDIMEC), an influential group of employers in the Rhône-Alpes region. |
