Dr. A. Patrice Burgess is the Medical Director of Physician Relations of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. Dr. Burgess joined the Saint Alphonsus leadership team in 2005 and has been working to enhance the physician relationship ever since. Her role allows her to be an advocate for physicians having the best environment to work and care for their patients in the Saint Alphonsus health system.
Dr. Burgess serves on several Boards including, Idaho Cytogenetic Diagnostic Laboratory (ICDL) and the Idaho Medical Association. She also was the first Young Physician Representative to serve on the IMA Board of Trustees, a two-year position, and also served a three-year term as the Trustee representing District Four (Boise) before becoming President-Elect. Dr. Burgess became President of the Idaho Medical Association at the 2005 Annual Meeting and has served as the first woman president in 2005-2006. Dr. Burgess served for five years on the Governing Council of the American Medical Association's (AMA) Young Physician's Section (YPS). She was the Alternate Delegate from the YPS to the AMA and served as the Chair of the YPS nationally.
Dr. Burgess received her undergraduate and graduate degree in zoology from the University of Idaho and attended medical school at the University of Washington. She completed her internship and residency at the Family Practice Residency of Idaho, and was board certified in 1993 (renewed in 2000) and licensed in Idaho in 1991 and in Arizona in 1996. After completing residency training, she served in the US Air Force in Arizona, then returned to Boise to teach in the residency program where she trained. She was the Assistant Residency Director before accepting the position at Saint Alphonsus.
She continues to care for her own patients and teach residents at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho in Boise. "I cannot imagine ever not providing patient care," says Dr. Burgess; "It is such a privilege to practice medicine, despite the many challenges of our system." |
