Pat Verbeek enters his first season as a pro scout with the Red Wings after playing two seasons with the team in 1999-2001, and serving as a part-time color analyst for the team's broadcasts on FSN Detroit.
His responsibilities will include providing insight for evaluating talent and considering player personnel decisions. He will also be called upon to scout select teams at the NHL and AHL levels and provide key information to the Wings' coaching and management staffs regarding potential trade and free-agent acquisitions, and for preparing for upcoming opponents.
The Sarnia, Ontario native was selected 43rd overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils and made his NHL debut with the Devils during the 1982-83 season. He played for five teams during a 21-year career, including Hartford, New York Rangers and Dallas. He compiled 522 goals and 541 assists in 1,424 games.
