Orrin MacMurray Biography :

Orrin B. MacMurray, P.E. is President and CEO of the C&S Companies. He joined the organization in 1972, after serving as an officer in the United States Corps of Engineers and participating in active-duty tours at Fort Drum, New York, and in the Republic of Vietnam. A career that began as an assistant engineer some 20 years earlier, and included his first professional license in 1978 (now licensed in 24 states), progressed to where MacMurray was elected President of C&S Engineers, Inc. in 1994. Since becoming President, MacMurray has led the company to diversify. The core strengths of the company, engineering and construction, lend themselves to participation in vertically integrated teams for the delivery of complete programs to C&S's customers. Expanding on this concept, affiliate companies were established starting with C&S Design Build in 1994, C&S Technical Resources, Inc. in 1996, and C&S Operations, Inc., in 1997. MacMurray has held numerous positions outside of business. He has been an active member of his town planning board for over 20 years, having held the position of chairman for 14 of those years. He serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Hiawatha Seaway Council, Inc. of the Boy Scouts of America and is on the Advisory Board for Syracuse University’s School of Engineering. MacMurray is an active member of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York and Presidents Council at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He is on the advisory board for the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University and is a guest lecturer. MacMurray is also active in the National Society of Professional Engineers having received the 1997 Engineer of the Year Award for Central New York. He is active in the Water Environment Federation, American Water Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Military Engineers, and other professional bodies. He is a member of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee, a member of the Central New York Metropolitan Development Association, past president of American Council of Engineering Companies New York, representing consulting engineering firms, and past vice chairman of the American Council of Engineering Companies, Inc., representing 5,900 engineering companies with over 200,000 employees throughout the U.S., board member of Upstate Medical University Foundation in Syracuse, chairman of The New York Indoor Environmental Quality Center, and a Trustee of WCNY Public Television. MacMurray continued his involvement with the military after his active-duty tours concluded, beginning with assignments in the United States Army Reserve in the 1209th Army Garrison in Syracuse and has risen to the rank of full Colonel in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Representative assignments have included Commander of the 479th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Corps) in Watertown, New York, and Deputy Commander of the 1209th Engineer Group in Mattydale, New York. MacMurray concluded his 30-year military career in 1998 as the First United States Army Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer to the Governor of New York State and the Adjutant General of the New York National Guard. MacMurray is the new chair-elect for the American Council of Engineering Companies for 2006-2007. He will serve in this role for one year, after which, he will become the chairman of ACEC. As chair-elect, he will act as national liaison to seven Northeastern states. He will also develop plans and programs that ACEC will implement during his year as national chairman. ACEC is the voice of America’s engineering industry. The more than 5,500 firms comprising the council’s membership are engaged in a wide range of engineering works that propel the nation’s economy, and enhance and safeguard America’s quality of life. ACEC’s mission is to contribute to America’s prosperity and welfare by advancing the business interests of member firms. MacMurray's involvement in ACEC includes a term as vice chairman of the national organization of ACEC and past president of ACEC New York. When not engaged in business or public service, MacMurray enjoys woodworking in his shop at home or camping with his wife Karen.
