Opal Reinbold has recently joined PPH with responsibility for the performance improvement/patient safety and resource utilization programs for the health system, working closely with the designated physician leaders for the health system.
Opal Reinbold came from Sharp Healthcare, a multi-entity system in San Diego, CA as the Vice President for Performance Improvement. She provided leadership for the Performance Improvement/Patient Safety and Regulatory processes for the integrated hospital system.
Until Opal joined the Sharp HealthCare system, she was the Principal of West Coast Division of the Accreditation and Assessment practice of Premier Inc. Premier Inc. is a national firm, one of the largest of its kind in the United States, providing a wide variety of services to their member organizations to assist them in achieving their health status improvement and cost reduction strategies. Opal was a healthcare consultant for the past ten years. Previous to joining Premier Inc., Opal was the Director of Accreditation Services with the National Healthcare Advisory Services practice of BDO Seidman, LLP. Prior to joining BDO, Ms. Reinbold was a consultant with Qual Ed, Inc.
Prior to her full time consulting practice, she was the System-wide Director of Quality Resource Management for Scripps Health in San Diego, California. Her responsibilities included creation and implementation of a corporate-wide standardized QRM System (Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Utilization Management) which included seven hospitals, two nursing homes and numerous clinics and affiliated businesses, as well as strategic responsibility for implementation of an improvement-based management/reporting structure.
Ms. Reinbold has also served as a Vice President with Holy Cross Health System. In her positions, she has worked with leadership groups, including Board, Administration and Medical Staff, as well as managers and staff at all levels.
Ms. Reinbold has extensive experience in the following areas:
Performance improvement/Patient Safety processes and tools
Proactive tools to address risk identification and follow-up to sentinel events and near misses
Medical staff performance improvement
Operationalizing improvement activities to enhance cost effectiveness
Strategic planning/Board/leadership training and support

Planning and managing successfully for organizational change
She has also worked extensively with medical staff organizations, enabling them to work collaboratively and productively with their administrative counterparts.
Ms. Reinbold is a skilled speaker and writer with an extensive resume of publications and national speaking engagements in the areas of Performance Improvement, Organization Change, the changing JCAHO standards and approach to survey. Her most recent articles include "Board Leadership for Patient Safety: New JCAHO Standards" which appeared in June 2001 issue of Trustee Magazine, and she co-authored "JCAHO: Responding to Quality and Safety Initiatives" which appeared in the Journal of Healthcare Management in the July/August issues 2002.
Ms. Reinbold is certified to teach William Bridges’ Managing Successfully Through Constant Change, which is designed to help organizations/individuals in planning for change and managing through the constantly changing environment to create a positive change experience while maximizing productivity in an organization.
Ms. Reinbold served on the Steering Committee for the Healthcare Forum’s Quality Improvement Network for three years, and as a board member for the Institute for Quality and Productivity through the University of San Diego and San Diego State University. She has also been trained through Dr. Edward Deming’s Courses, the Juran Institute, HCA, Joiner Associates, William Bridges, The Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is a master trainer for Team Coordination Training. |
