Oliver Press, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington, an Adjunct Professor in Biological Structure at the University of Washington, and a Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. He is the Acting Program Director for the High Dose Chemotherapy Service at the University of Washington Medical Center and an Associate Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program. Dr. Press received a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University in 1973, a Ph.D. in Biological Structure from the University of Washington in 1977, and an M.D. from the University of Washington in 1979. After completing an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital from 1979-1982, he continued as an Instructor for Harvard Medical School. Dr. Press subsequently served as the medical chief resident at the University of Washington from 1982-83 and as an oncology fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington from 1983-85.
Dr. Press is an internationally recognized authority on treatment of non-Hodgkins lymphomas, autologous stem cell transplantation, and monoclonal antibody therapy of hematologic malignancies. He has published nearly 130 scientific articles and currently is the principal investigator on several national protocols for treatment of B cell lymphomas and Hodgkin's disease. Dr. Press has received multiple awards during his career including election to Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha academic fraternities, receipt of the Robert S. Evans Award, the John J. Bonica Prize, the Lamport Biomedical Research Prize, the Seattle Academy of Internal Medicine prize, a Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Clinical Oncology, a Clinical Oncology Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society, a First Independent Research and Training Award from the National Institutes of Health, a Boeing Corporate Medical Research Award, and recent election to the prestigious American Society of Clinical Investigation and American Association of Physicians. Dr. Press has been the recipient of multiple research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, the Department of Energy and many private research foundations.
