Dr. Peoples co-founded Metabolix in 1992 and currently holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer with responsibility for leading the Company’s overall scientific programs. He has directed the Company’s intellectual property effort, which has successfully prosecuted and extended the Company’s patent position to cover all aspects of the PHA business from genes to products. Dr. Peoples received a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984. He then moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was appointed as a research scientist in the Department of Biology in 1988, where he emerged as one of the creators of the new fields of metabolic pathway engineering and biopolymer engineering. He holds many patents related to the genomics and production of PHAs including the first U.S. Patents on the expression of PHA genes in crop plants. |
