As Immtech’s Vice President of Discovery Programs, Dr. Abood works directly with the scientific
consortium and contract vendors to develop and implement plans for each research program including,
but not limited to, the antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral programs. He has over 15 years experience
in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. A former registered pharmacist, Dr. Abood received his
B.S. Pharmacy and M.S. Medicinal Chemistry degrees from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and
Allied Health Sciences graduating in 1984. He completed his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from
Ohio State University in 1987 and was awarded a Research Fellowship from the National Cancer Institute
in 1986-1987. After completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Organic Chemistry at Indiana University,
Dr. Abood held a number of supervisory roles as a Research Scientist in the Discovery Medicinal Chemistry
Department at Searle between 1989 and 1999, and served as Senior Project Manager for Pharmacia/Pfizer
R&D for the following five years, where he was responsible for advancing several early and late stage
development projects through key milestones in the drug development process. |
