Norma Chandler Brown graduated magna cum laude from Tougaloo College with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1970. She earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Florida International University in December, 1982, with certification in personnel administration.From 1970 to 1981, Florida Job Services and Benefits employed Norma in jobs ranging from Employment Interviewer to Employer Services Representative. She spearheaded the Metro-Dade County supplier and staff cross-training project, then relocated to Los Angeles. She was a Personnel Clerk and Analyst for the Personnel Commission at Lynwood Unified School District.Norma became Director of Procurement and Outreach for New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Rutgers University Graduate School of Management in 1984. There she served as executive on loan to the state Department of Commerce Office of Small Business Assistance, and led more than 50 statewide how-to-market-the government seminars. Norma was appointed Chief of the new state Office of Women Business Enterprise where she facilitated small business participation in President Ronald Reagan's 1986 New Jersey Economic Recovery Summit.From 1989 to 1996, Norma directed one of three US Department of Labor national work-based learning demonstration projects for WAVE, Inc., Work Achievement Values and Education, and was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Work-Based Learning. As Competition Advocate for Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), she reviewed formal contracting procedures, ensuring full and open procurement practices among contracting staff. She became Executive Director of a new self-sufficiency training and community development organization in Atlanta, GA, prior to relocating home to Mississippi in 1998.Norma joined MMI Hotel Group/Dining Systems in January, 1999. As Corporate Director of Training and Recruitment, she leads human resource development and education, recruitment and retention programs. |
