Niraj Patel was executive vice president and chief information officer of GMAC Commercial Holdings (now Capmark Inc.) until June 2006. Over a period of 10 years, Niraj built the company’s technology praised as Best of Breed in web technologies for all of General Motors - from the ground up. In this capacity, he guided the corporation’s worldwide activities in new technologies, global processes, application development, infrastructure, telecommunications and business unit support.
Patel sat on the executive boards for GMAC Commercial Holdings, MortgageRamp and Deskom. In addition, he is the senior manager for McCracken Financial Services (MFS), oversees its fiscal management and budget approval, and holds executive responsibility for its external customers. Both the President of MFS and CIO of GMAC Commercial Holding Capital Corp. (GMACCHCC) reported directly to Patel.
Mr. Patel began his business career as a network analyst in 1992. He served as CTO, prior to his elevation to CIO at GMAC Commercial Holdings in 1996.
Patel is widely regarded as an industry expert and is frequently featured in technology and mortgage publications including Network World, Information Week, Banking Strategies, Computerworld, American Banker, Wall Street Journal, Mortgage Technology Magazine, Silicon India, Philadelphia Inquirer, National Mortgage News, Financial Times, Philadelphia Business Journal, Financial Executive Magazine, Business Communications Review, New York Times, Network World Fusion, RealComm Advisory, and PC Week.
Patel’s achievements have been recognized by CIO Magazine, The Yankee Group and various financial services industry groups. Excellence awards include the 2004 CIO 100 Award (Agile 100), Realcomm Top 25 People to Watch in Commercial Real Estate for 2004 and 2005, and CIO Forum Top Financial IT Executive of 2001, 2002 and 2004.
Patel has been a frequent speaker on well-respected industry panels at 3Com, Wharton/UPenn, Temple University and at professional conferences such as the Mortgage Bankers Technology Conference and SIM (Society for Information Management) meetings. In March 2004, Patel was the keynote speaker at VoiceCon.
Patel serves on various technology advisory committees such as the Microsoft Executive Circle, Eastern Technology Council and MISMO (Mortgage Industry Standards Organization). He is active in non-profit work and philanthropy. He serves on the NPowerPA advisory committee spearheading its first reduce SPAM campaign. NPowerPA is a non-profit that helps other non-profits in the Philadelphia region use technology to better serve the local community.
Patel holds duals bachelor’s degree in Finance and Computer Science from Temple University in Philadelphia. He is a Temple Fellow. He and his family make their home in suburban Philadelphia.
