Law Practice E. Niki Warin is Of Counsel to the Criminal Defense Law Practice of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C.. Ms. Warin represents individuals and organizations charged with crimes in both federal and state courts at all stages of the criminal justice process.Professional Profile Prior to joining the firm in January 2007, Ms. Warin practiced criminal law as a partner at the Law Offices of J. Bruce Maffeo where she litigated many criminal matters in both federal and state court involving a broad range of criminal conduct, including securities fraud, public corruption, bribery, money laundering, crimes of violence and narcotics trafficking. Ms. Warin also litigated regulatory actions by the Securities and Exchange Commission and several state licensing agencies.Before joining Mr. Maffeo’s law firm in 2002, Ms. Warin practiced for three years as a trial attorney in the Manhattan Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society. There Ms. Warin represented clients at hearings and trials in New York state courts, and handled bail applications, grand jury practice and pre-trial motions. Ms. Warin also represented clients in proceedings before the Division of Parole and the Board of Education. During her tenure at Legal Aid, Ms. Warin litigated a complex pretrial hearing regarding the admissibility of expert testimony regarding eye witnesses, People v. Legrand, 747 N.Y.S.2d 733 (Sup. Ct. N.Y. 1999). In addition, she served as pro bono co-counsel in the post conviction proceedings for an indigent death row inmate in Alabama.Professional Affiliations Ms. Warin is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and also an active member of the Committee on Capital Punishment at the NYC Bar Association.Education Ms. Warin graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, and obtained her law degree from New York University School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Snow Public Service Scholar and a staff editor for the Annual Survey of American Law. During law school, Ms. Warin worked at the Capital Defender Organization defending clients charged with the death penalty eligible crimes in New York, the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project, and the Community Law Offices of the Legal Aid Society. After graduating from law school, Ms. Warin clerked for two years for the Hon. Deborah A. Batts, a federal district court judge in the Southern District of New York. Ms. Warin was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is fluent in French. Admissions Ms. Warin is admitted to the New York State bar, as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Supreme Court of the United States. |
