Professional Experience
Ms. Rivas has handled a variety of employment litigation matters, including discrimination and harassment claims, wrongful termination actions and wage and hour disputes. Ms. Rivas has represented employers before a host of administrative agencies, including the Labor Commissioner, the Department of Labor Standards Enforcement, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the Employment Development Department.
In addition to her strong litigation background, Ms. Rivas has extensive experience in employment counseling. Drawing from her years of practice, Ms. Rivas has developed a comprehensive guideline for human resources professionals, which covers everything from hiring and terminations to conducting good faith investigations.
Building on her experience in more traditional aspects of employment law, Ms. Rivas has also developed expertise in the area of trade secret protection and enforcement of restrictive covenants. Additionally, Ms. Rivas handles ERISA litigation. She has successfully defended ERISA matters through trial.
Ms. Rivas has appeared on television as an expert in employment law and has published several articles, including "Romance Languages,"(an expose on prophylactic measures designed to prevent sexual harassment claims), in both the Los Angeles Daily Journal and the National Law Journal, and "Workplace Violence," published in the National Law Journal.
