Nicholas Bacopoulos, Ph.D. is the President of Medexis, a biotechnology company that identifies, develops and commercializes new life science technologies. Prior to joining Medexis, Dr. Bacopoulos was Managing Director of the Biomedical Institute of the Academy of Athens, Greece (IIBEAA). He was also past President and C.E.O. of Aton Pharma, Inc, a U.S. biotech company specializing in the development of anti-cancer agents acquired by Merck. Prior to joining Aton in 2002, Dr. Bacopoulos was President and Head of R & D at OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. From 1996 to 2000, he served as President and C.E.O. of Anaderm Research Corporation, which is majority-owned by Pfizer Inc. Dr. Bacopoulos has also held senior posts at Pfizer Central Research and Corporate Strategic Planning, as well as heading the Pfizer cancer research group. That group produced a significant pipeline of novel anticancer agents, several of which are in clinical trials. He also led Pfizer’s neuroscience group and was responsible for the preclinical development of the anti-depressant Zoloft and the discovery of the anti-psychotic Geodon. He has been a director of Packard Biosciences, Inc. and currently serves as a director of Alexipharma, Inc. He is also a Trustee of Athens College of Greece. Dr. Bacopoulos received his B.A. degree from Cornell College and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Iowa. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine and was a member of the faculty of Dartmouth Medical School. |
