Nia Castelly Biography :

Nia Castelly has broad general corporate litigation experience and specializes in intellectual property litigation, including trade secret disputes, copyright, patent, trademark and trade dress infringement, and unfair competition. In addition, Nia advises clients on intellectual property protection, including the proper development, marketing and distribution of their products.

Nia represents both U.S.- and foreign-based clients involved in numerous industries, including consumer goods, telecommunications, textile, software development, music, film, apparel and financial services.

At Pryor Cashman, Nia has been involved in a number of high-profile cases, including:

Chafir v. Carey, et al. (S.D.N.Y.): Representing Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, Johnta Austin and Manuel Seal and music publishing entities in a music copyright litigation involving a song on Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi album

Mullen, et al. v. Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, et al. (N.D. Ill.) & Carousel Dinner Theatre, LLC, et al v. Carrafa et al. (N.D. Ohio): Representing the director, choreographer and designers for the Broadway production of Urinetown: the Musical in a copyright infringement and Lanham Act violation litigation involving novel issues of copyright protection for stage direction and the overall protection of original and creative work in a theatrical production

Cassese, et al. v. Martin Erlichman Assoc., et al. (Cal. Superior): Represented creators, producers and broadcaster of the television show So You Think You Can Dance in an alleged theft of ideas case

Nia is a 2000 graduate of Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, a finalist in the Harlan Fiske Stone Honors Moot Court Competition, and the Production Editor of the Columbia-VLA Journal of Law & the Arts.
