Nathan Coco Biography :

Nathan Coco is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm's Chicago office. He is a member of the Corporate Department and the Troubled Transactions and Bankruptcy Practice Group. Nathan concentrates his practice on commercial transactions, corporate restructurings and bankruptcy, distressed finance and M&A, claims trading, creditor rights and commercial litigation.

Nathan has represented and advised corporate clients, boards of directors, public debt holders, institutional investors and lenders in the retail, healthcare, information technology, energy, and derivative financial product sectors on matters related to creditor rights, legal and transactional risk, collateral and credit support, rights and remedies upon default, and counterparty insolvency. Nathan has represented secured and unsecured creditors and contractual counterparties in a number of Chapter 11 cases including In re United Airlines, Inc., In re Portrait Corporations of America, In re Interstate Bakeries Corporation, In re PG&E National Energy Group, Inc., In re AMERCO Real Estate Company, and In re Enron Corp.

Prior to law school, Nathan worked as a documentation policy analyst at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. Nathan advises clients with respect to the "safe harbor" treatment of forward contracts and derivative financial product transactions under the Bankruptcy Code and the preservation of collateral rights and remedies in the event of counterparty bankruptcy.

Nathan serves as a faculty member at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and is a frequent lecturer on topics relating to creditor rights, corporate bankruptcy and debt restructuring. He has recently spoken at the American College of Investment Counsel Annual Spring Investment Forum (April 2007), the Energy Tax and Regulation Conference hosted by the MW&E Energy and Derivatives Markets Group (October 2006), and the Law Seminars International Energy Conference (March 2005).

Nathan has also recently published an article in Energy Risk (October 2006) entitled "Bankruptcy Code Confusion," and is a contributing author to the treatise Financial Products Taxation, Regulation and Design, (3d. Ed. 2006).

Nathan is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, Chicago Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and has served as a Co-Chair of the Chicago Bar Association YLS Bankruptcy and Business Reorganization Committee.

He is admitted to practice in Illinois and has appeared before several state and federal courts throughout the country.
