Murray L. Aitken is senior vice president, Corporate Strategy. Aitken has global responsibility for evaluating and developing plans and actions for the long-term growth of IMS. Previously, he was senior vice president, IMS Global Consulting and Services.
Aitken has more than 14 years’ experience advising clients on a variety of strategic, operational and organizational issues in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, manufacturing and consumer products industries. Joining IMS from McKinsey & Co. in June 2001, Aitken most recently served as principal of that firm’s Pharmaceutical and Medical Products Practice. In that role, he partnered with senior executives of major pharmaceutical companies in the US and abroad, leading consulting initiatives that focused on developing new sales and marketing strategies, improving R&D initiatives and strengthening organizational effectiveness.
As part of McKinsey’s Seoul, South Korea operation from 1991 to 1997, Aitken was instrumental in establishing the firm’s successful consulting practice there. Named a partner and principal in 1994, he played a lead role in developing McKinsey’s external reputation, cultivating client service opportunities and recruiting and developing new consultants. Through his efforts, the South Korea office grew to 80 consultants and became McKinsey’s model for how to best leverage the firm’s assets on a global scale.
From 1987 to 1991, Aitken was associated with McKinsey’s Los Angeles office, where he held progressively responsible positions, serving clients in the media, financial and electronics manufacturing sectors. Aitken worked at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells from 1980 to 1985, first as an accountant and then as senior accountant and audit manager.
Aitken received an MBA degree with distinction from Harvard University in 1987. He holds Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Commerce degrees from the University of Auckland in New Zealand, both received in 1982. |
