Montavious Stanley Biography :

COLLEGE: Montavious Stanley possesses both the size and durability to become an integral part on the inside of the 3-4 defense - which is one of the reasons the Cowboys drafted him in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He also has the ability and strength to play run containment or clog up the middle by taking on multiple blockers - something he did very well from his defensive tackle position at Louisville. Stanley also has the versatility to play multiple positions having started at left defensive end, left tackle, nose guard and right tackle in college.

2005: Stanley finished his career at Louisville 12th in school history with 12.5 quarterback sacks and tied for ninth with 30 stops behind the line of scrimmage. As a senior, he was an All-Big East Conference first-team choice by the NFL Draft Report after finishing the season with 48 tackles and career-highs in sacks (5.5) and tackles behind the line of scrimmage (10). He also recovered three fumbles and forced one. He helped lead the Cardinals to a 9-3 season and a Gator Bowl Berth. The Cardinals opened their season at Kentucky where Stanley recorded six stops. Against Oregon State, he had four tackles, two sacks, two tackles for a loss and recovered one fumble. He earned his first start of the season at South Florida and responded with six tackles before posting another six against Florida Atlantic. He also recorded two tackles for losses and caused and recovered a fumble in that game. Against North Carolina, he had three stops, one sack and one tackle for a loss. He earned his second start at West Virginia and posted a season-high eight tackles and one tackle behind the line. He posted six stops, 0.5 sacks, one tackle for a loss and recovered a fumble at Cincinnati and had two tackles, one sack and one tackle for a loss against Pittsburgh. He had four tackles, one sack and two tackles for losses against Syracuse. He started at Connecticut and had three tackles but was forced to sit out of the Gator Bowl against Virginia Tech after under going surgery on Dec. 15 to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

2004: As a junior, he started 10 contests at right defensive tackle and notched 30 tackles, four sacks and 4.5 stops for losses. He also caused and recovered two fumbles - including one in the end zone for a touchdown - and deflected two passes. In the opener, Stanley recorded two tackles, one sack and a forced fumble. Against Army, he added two more tackles and recovered a fumble. Stanley had three stops, one tackle behind the line of scrimmage and forced one fumble against East Carolina. He posted a season-high six tackles against Memphis. He tied his season high of six tackles against Houston while also posting 1.5 tackles for losses and one sack. At Cincinnati, he added four tackles, one for a loss, and a sack before recovering one fumble for a touchdown against Tulane. Against Boise State he had three tackles and one sack.

2003: He started 12 games for the Cardinals at left defensive end and then switched to left tackle for the GMAC Bowl. Stanley finished the year with 37 tackles, three sacks, 13 tackles for losses and two deflected passes. In the season opener at Kentucky, Stanley had four tackles and one tackle for a loss before posting another four tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss and one fumble recovery against Syracuse. Against UTEP, he had one tackle and recovered one fumble. Against Temple, Stanley recorded five stops, three tackles for a loss and two sacks before adding two tackles and another tackle behind the line at South Florida. He had four tackles and two tackles behind the line and added five stops against Houston. At Cincinnati, he had a season-high six stops and added two more for losses. He did not record any stats in the GMAC Bowl against Miami.

2002: Stanley played in 10 games as a reserve defensive end helping the Cardinals finish with a 7-5 record. He recorded 16 tackles, 2.5 tackles behind the line and a fumble recovery - returning it 56 yards - in his first year of play. At Colorado State, he was held to zero tackles but had a crucial fumble recovery which he returned 56 yards to the two-yard line, setting up a Cardinal touchdown. He posted a season-high five tackles at Army along with one tackle behind the line. In the season finale he posted four stops and one tackle behind the line at Houston.

2001: He redshirted as a freshman.

PERSONAL: Stanley attended Westover High School in Albany, Ga., where he lettered four times in football and earned all-state honors as a defensive tackle during his junior and senior years. As a senior, he helped lead the team to an 11-2 record and the state semifinals. As a junior, he led the school to a state title with a 13-2 record. Stanley was a general studies major at Louisville.
