Mr. Smith is Vice President of Radio Engineering, a position he has held for almost 22 years. For the preceding 11 years he held a similar position with First Media Corporation, another large radio group owner. Prior to that, he spent several years with Tribune Broadcasting in New York as Assistant Chief Engineer of their radio and television stations. In March of 2005, Mr. Smith was chosen to receive the prestigious Radio Engineering Achievement Award from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). Mr. Smith has been featured among Radio Ink Magazine's most admired radio engineers in the U.S. . He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), the National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) and the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE). As a member of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Mr. Smith is active in the NAB Spectrum Integrity/Digital Radio Committee. In addition, he recently served as acting chairman and is a current member of the technical advisory group to the NAB Digital Rights Management Committee. He is also active on the National Radio Systems Committee, serving on its IBOC standards development working group, its surround sound audio task group and its AM standards task group. Mr. Smith is the former long time chairman of NAB's DAB subcommittee, which was been involved for over a decade in the evaluation and development of the next generation of digital radio service for the United States, now very much a reality. In April 2007, he was selected as the overall chairman of the NRSC. |
