Michel Landel Biography :

Michel Landel was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Sodexho Alliance in September 2005.

In June 2003, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Sodexho Alliance . and held the positions of Chief Executive Officer of Sodexho in North America, and Chief Executive for the UK and Ireland, and oversees the Remote Site Management business. Mr. Landel has been the driving force behind the Group’s remarkable expansion in North America, where it now generates nearly half of its consolidated revenues and employs more than 106,000 people. On September 1, 2005, he will take up the post of Chief Executive Officer of Sodexho Alliance, the world’s leading food and management services company.

Mr. Landel joined Sodexho in 1984 as Chief Operating Manager for Eastern and North Africa. His exceptional career achievements reflect his extraordinary ability to motivate teams. He has increased sales and earnings in the units he has managed. By 1986, he had been promoted to President of the Group’s entire Remote Site operations in Africa, and in 1989 he took charge of the Group’s North American operations. Under his management, in ten years Sodexho became the fourth largest player in the market, which represents nearly one third of potential global sales. In 1998, Mr. Landel helped bring about the merger between Sodexho and Marriott Management Services, the leading food services company in North America. He participated actively in the creation of Sodexho Marriott Services (now Sodexho Inc.), an alliance whose success enhanced Sodexho’s global leadership and made it America’s number one Food and Management Services provider. In 1999, he was made Chief Executive Officer of Sodexho Inc., which ranks first in the Education, Healthcare, Senior and Defense segments, which offer the market’s highest growth potential. Positions in these segments were further strengthened with the acquisition of Wood Dining Services in 2001.

In February 2000, Michel Landel was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Sodexho Alliance Executive Committee.

In 1997, Mr. Landel won the industry’s coveted Golden Chain Award from the Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators association. Sodexho, Inc. was recognized as one of the best food service providers by Food Services Management magazine in 2001. In 2002, Mr. Landel received Restaurants & Institutions’ distinguished Ivy Award for developing restaurant-style brand concepts, while the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society voted him Hospitality Executive of the Year.

Today, Sodexho, Inc. ranks among the 50 largest employers in the United States and has been recognized on several occasions for its commitment to equal opportunity. In 2003-2004, Sodexho was named one of the nation’s top companies for diversity by Diversity, Inc. and received a Strategic Examples of Excellence in Diversity award from the MultiCultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance. Sodexho has also been listed among the 50 best US companies for Hispanic women to work for by Latina Style and as one of the 100 top employers of African-American graduates by The Black Collegian, a magazine aimed at improving the standing and education of the African-American minority in the United States. This commitment has also been recognized by Savoy Professional magazine, which named Sodexho among the 50 large companies providing the most promising career opportunities for African-Americans.

Mr. Landel was also named a recipient of Diversity Best Practices’ CEO Leadership Award for his focus on diversity and CEO Advocate of the Year by Asian Enterprise magazine for his minority hiring initiatives. These prestigious awards recognize an ongoing commitment to creating an environment of diversity among Sodexho’s employees, customers and partners.

Mr. Landel also initiated the launch and deployment of the STOP Hunger program to combat malnutrition, particularly among the more than ten million undernourished children in the United States. Sodexho believes it has a moral obligation to fight hunger and intends to extend the program to its main countries of operation.

Born in 1951, Michel Landel, a graduate of the European Business School, is married and has three children. He likes to travel and to relax in the kitchen preparing delicious and unique dishes for his family and friends.
