Dr. Michael Cumbo was appointed the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Coherent’s Optical Technologies business in July 2004. He is in charge of the Company’s optics and laser measurement businesses, as well as Coherent’s semiconductor diode business. Dr. Cumbo has over twenty years of experience in fields of optics and photonics. He started his career as an optical engineer with Kodak and Bausch & Lomb. He later joined Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc.’s (OCLI) research department and held increasingly responsible positions that lead to his appointment as Chief Technical Officer. Upon the acquisition of OCLI by JDS Uniphase (JDSU), Michael became Vice President and General Manager of JDSU’s OCLI Telecom Division and was later appointed Vice President and General Manager of the commercial laser division of the new company. Michael attended the University of Rochester where he earned a bachelor in physics and a masters and Ph.D. in optics. In addition, he holds a second masters degree in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. |
