Mike Cooper joined SCR-Tech as director, research & process development in 2006 and previously worked for Catalytica Energy Systems (and before that Catalytica, Inc.) for more than twenty five years in developing, managing and deploying a wide range advanced catalytic technologies. Mr. Cooper is primary inventor on a number of patents for solid super-acid gasoline alkylation catalysts, as well as a solvent based regeneration process to restore the activity of those catalysts when they deactivate. In connection with this, he managed R&D efforts in both the United States and Finland as part of a joint development program between Catalytica, Conoco and the Finnish National Oil Company. Mr. Cooper also managed the technical services group for Advanced Sensor Devices, a Catalytica business unit that successfully developed and deployed a novel technology based on SCR chemistry for the monitoring of stack gas NOx emissions. Most recently, Mr. Cooper has been responsible for manufacturing process development activities related to CESI's proprietary small gas turbine NOx reduction products and its mobile diesel NOx reduction products. In connection with this, he has worked to transfer innovative catalytic technology from the laboratory bench and test cell to the commercial marketplace. Mr. Cooper was involved in the original acquisition and integration of SCR-Tech into the CESI parent company, and has continued to work very closely with the SCR-Tech technical team after that successful integration. In this regard, he served as project lead on the recently completed study jointly conducted between SCR-Tech, American Electric Power and Southern Company on SO2 conversion optimization over regenerated SCR catalysts. In addition, he authored a paper on this work for Power Engineering Magazine and has given presentations relating to this at conferences held by EPRI, DOE / NETL and Electric Power 2006. Mr. Cooper earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in chemistry from San Jose State University. |
