Mike has experience conducting investigations into allegations of financial statement fraud assisting attorneys in white-collar criminal defense preparing expert reports in connection with business disputes and providing assurance and advisory business services to public and private companies and private equity funds in connection with mergers and acquisitions initial public offerings and other SEC filings. His primary areas of focus have been in the manufacturing technology communications and entertainment industries.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron Mike was a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton. He also worked at a boutique firm specializing in valuation. His experience with these firms included audit and assurance services transaction support business valuation and litigation support.
Mike has assisted counsel in numerous investigations and dispute matters. Representative examples of Mike's engagement experience include:
Assisted numerous law firms in their defense including providing support at trial of former executives of a publicly held corporation charged criminally and civilly with committing fraud resulting in the largest restatement at the time the company filed its restated financial statements.
Conducted an internal investigation at the direction of counsel into allegations of financial statement fraud and earnings manipulation.
Assisted a publicly held technology company with assessing its internal control environment in connection with its restatement of previously filed financial statements.
Prepared expert reports for a client involved in arbitration concerning claims in excess of $750 million. The reports were based on analysis and assessment of certain economic events on the financial performance of several subcontractors engaged by the opposition in connection with a large construction project.
Assisted a law firm representing a company in arbitration with a former employee involving the assessment of the employee's incentive bonus. He assisted the attorneys with interpreting accounting aspects of the employee's contract.
Managed multiple audit and business advisory consulting and due diligence engagements.
Led annual financial statement audits for public and private clients. Reviewed and consulted in preparation of annual and interim financial statements filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
