Oster began his banking career in 1974 with Equitable Bank N.A. beginning as a management trainee and advancing through multiple positions to manager of the Private Banking Department. He joined Carroll County Bank and Trust Company in 1986 as a senior vice president and was named president and chief executive officer in 1997. Oster joined BB&T in 1999 as a regional president when BB&T acquired Carroll County Bank and Trust Co. and became Maryland Group President in 2001.
