Michael L. Corbat is a Managing Director and Head of the Global Corporate Bank of Citi Markets & Banking (CMB). In this role, he leads the firm's efforts to provide best-in-class financial services to top-tier multi-national corporations and financial institutions around the world. He is a member of Citi's Management and Operating Committees.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Corbat was Head of Global Emerging Markets in the CMB, responsible for the origination, trading, and sales of emerging markets fixed income debt. Mr. Corbat joined Salomon Brothers, a Citi legacy firm, in 1983 in the Fixed Income Sales Department in Atlanta and has worked in New York City and London.
In his various advisory and structuring roles, he has successfully guided clients grappling with significant challenges, such as the bankruptcy of Orange County, California, to sovereign debt restructurings in Ecuador and Uruguay, to being actively involved with many of the activities surrounding the world's largest companies.
Mr. Corbat is an Executive Vice President of Citibank and Citicorp, and serves on Markets & Banking's Planning Group and Asset Liability Committee. He is also Chairman of Markets & Banking's Senior Recruiting Committee.
Born in Bristol, Connecticut, Mr. Corbat earned a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University in 1983. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Salisbury School and a member of the Board of Directors of the British American Business Institute.
