Michael E. Fogarty is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Washington, D.C. office. Michael is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department and serves as the D.C. office Intellectual Property, Media & Technology practice group leader. He focuses his practice on patent procurement and litigation.
Michael’s practice entails all aspects of patent procurement. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications for various major corporations, both domestic and foreign, in areas of technology including computer software applications, microprocessor design, telecommunication systems and semiconductor manufacturing processes. He has performed patent infringement and validity analysis for major corporations and has counseled these corporations on how to avoid infringement of various patents. He has also assisted clients in formulating strategies and policies for generating a patent portfolio. Michael also has substantial experience handling patent interference proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Michael had extensive experience as an electrical engineer. He has worked for both Eaton Corporation and United Technologies as a design engineer, responsible for various aspects of the design and integration of microwave radar systems.
Michael received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. He is admitted to the bars of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
