Michael D. Bakewell was named senior vice president fossil operations in December 2003. In that capacity he oversees all aspects of operations for Entergy’s fleet of over 30 natural gas coal oil hydro and petroleum coke plants in Arkansas Louisiana Mississippi Texas and Europe with total generating capacity exceeding 20 000 megawatts. He is also responsible for the engineering and construction group which provides management support for power generation projects and Entergy Power Operations U.S. which provides operations and maintenance services for other generating companies. Prior to assuming the role of fossil operations vice president Bakewell served as vice president plant operations for five years.
Bakewell brings more than 28 years of operations experience to his role. Since he joined Entergy in 1982 he has held positions of increasing responsibility within the company’s fossil organization. Bakewell has served as an assistant plant manager director of fossil plant support director of total quality general manager of Ninemile Point plant in New Orleans coordinator of plant operations’ Best-In-Class effort and director of Entergy’s Western region fossil plants - which included plants in Texas Louisiana and Arkansas.
From February to October 1998 Bakewell served as vice president of utility transition where he worked with numerous Entergy departments to integrate the company’s transition strategy. He has also led process re-engineering projects total quality implementation and deregulation-related efforts for the company and has extensive labor relations and change management experience. Prior to joining Entergy Bakewell was employed by the former Gulf States Utilities.
Bakewell earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He is currently working towards a master’s degree in sociology at Sam Houston State University.
Bakewell serves on the Board of Directors and on the Power Generation Committee for the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies an international association of electric utilities and generating transmitting and distributing companies. He is also a member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society an international charitable society with over 4 500 active conferences in the United States and about 70 000 active members.
Bakewell is married and has two daughters one attending Texas Tech Medical School in Lubbock and one who works in Houston Texas. |
