Michael Froman is Managing Director and Head of Infrastructure and Sustainable Development at Citi Alternative Investments and a member of Citi’s Management Committee.
He joined Citi in December 1999 and has served as Chief Operating Officer of Citi Alternative Investments; President and CEO of CitiInsurance, Citi’s international insurance business; Director of Emerging Markets Strategy; Chief of Staff of the Office of the Chairman; and Chief Operating Officer of the Internet Operating Group.
Mr. Froman had previously spent seven years in the U.S. Government. He served as Chief of Staff and as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Eurasia and the Middle East at the U.S. Department of Treasury under Secretary Robert E. Rubin. He was also Director for International Economic Affairs at the National Security Council and National Economic Council at the White House.
Prior to working in the U.S. Government, Mr. Froman served as director of the American Bar Association’s legal assistance program in Albania and as a member of the Forward Studies Unit of the European Commission in Brussels.
He is a member of the Trilateral Commission and the Board of Trustees of The New School University. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, where he is also a member of its Chairman's Advisory Council and Committee on Studies.
Mr. Froman received a bachelor’s degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University, a doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University, and a law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
