Born in Katowice, Poland and raised in Chatham, New Brunswick, Matthew Sokolowski just completed his 15th season with the Quebec Nordiques/ Colorado Avalanche organization. He was promoted to his current position in the summer of 2004.
A 1991 graduate of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a degree in Kinesiology, Sokolowski joined the organization with the Halifax Citadels, AHL affiliate of the Quebec Nordiques, as head trainer for the 1991-92 season. After serving as head trainer with the Nords' AHL affiliates in Halifax and Cornwall, Ontario for three seasons, he made the jump to the NHL level as assistant trainer with the Nordiques in 1995 before transferring to Colorado with the club for the 1995-96 season. Sokolowski is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society (PHATS). He is also a nationally registered EMT.
Sokolowski, 38, resides in Centennial with his wife, Beth, daughter Karly (3) and son Luke (1). |
