Matthew Jones is a member of the research staff in the Asner Lab at the Department of Global Ecology, Carnegie Institution of Washington. Currently, his focus is on remote sensing of invasive species and biodiversity in Hawaiian rainforests using hyperspectral imagery and GIS combined with detailed field studies. He is also a member of the Carnegie Airborne Observatory Science Operations Team, a new airborne laser and hyperspectral remote sensing platform designed for regional assessments of carbon, water, and biodiversity. After earning a B.A. in Philosophy at the University of Santa Barbara, CA, Matthew went on to earn a Teaching Credential in Secondary Mathematics at San Francisco State University and spent some time as a Middle School Math Teacher and Software/Programming Instructor. He then earned his M.S. in Resource Conservation at the University of Montana while working as a research assistant at the Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group. His M.S. thesis focused on remote measurement of water quality using Terra MODIS satellite imagery over Flathead Lake, Montana. |
