Matt Hurt practices in the areas of civil litigation, with an emphasis in construction, antitrust, condemnation, real estate, and general business litigation. He has represented private landowners in condemnation and threatened condemnation proceedings, assisting them in putting in place a plan to cure and in seeking compensation from governmental agencies. He also has represented commercial and residential owners, general contractors, and subcontractors in construction defect disputes and payment disputes, both as plaintiff, and as defendant. The disputes have involved construction on apartment buildings, condos, single family residential structures, and large commercial retail/office structures. Mr. Hurt played a key part in settling a significant construction defect case concerning a large multi-unit condo structure where plaintiffs alleged fraud against the developer and systematic defective construction affecting all condo units against various trades. That case settled, in part, because of the joint efforts of our lawyers and the client in finding a creative resolution with the municipality's building official. Mr. Hurt played a vital role in obtaining restitution from a client’s former employee who embezzled millions of dollars. He has experience in representing health care entities in antitrust defense litigation, as well as working on the plaintiff's side in two large antitrust actions. Mr. Hurt also has experience in pre- and post-judgment remedies.
