Matt Norton maintains a diverse resort and hospitality, real estate development, commercial real estate and commercial finance practice. He represents developers, owners and operators of golf, hotel and resort properties in developing and documenting planned and mixed-use communities which include condominiums, condominium hotels, private clubs, golf courses, hotels, beach amenities and clubs, marinas, rental management programs and other elements and amenities. Mr. Norton has handled more than 50 golf transactions and has represented a golf real estate investment trust for the past eight years.
He also represents developers in stand-alone residential and mixed-use projects with commercial, retail and residential elements. He has experience in the design and documentation of such development projects including homeowners' association covenants and association bylaws, builder programs, restrictions and easements and condominium master deeds. Mr. Norton regularly advises on homeowners' association and condominium horizontal property regime management, turnover and operational issues.
Mr. Norton also does work for homebuilder clients and routinely handles commercial transactions, particularly the sale and development of shopping centers, hotels and apartments. In addition, he actively practices in the area of commercial leasing law.
Finally, Mr. Norton has significant experience representing both lenders and borrowers in development and construction financing transactions and loan workouts. While at the University of South Carolina, Mr. Norton was the editor in chief of the South Carolina Law Review.
