Matthew J. Cox is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson). He joined Matson in June 2001 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. In 2002, Cox assumed the additional role of controller and given added responsibilities for information services and corporate development. In 2003, he managed Matson's investment in Sea Star Lines, and is a member on the board of managers of SSAT.
Prior to Matson, Cox had 15 years of experience in the transportation industry, 12 of which were spent at American President Lines, Ltd. (APL). From 1999 to 2001, he held executive posts at Distribution Dynamics, Inc., a provider of outsourced logistics, inventory management and integrated information systems based in Danville, California; he was the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer at the time he joined Matson. From 1987 to 1999, Cox held positions of increasing responsibility at APL, covering both financial and operational aspects of the company, including vice president, refrigerated container market; managing director, Middle East, Africa, Indian Subcontinent Region Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and director, financial support services.
Cox has a B.S. in accounting and finance from the University of California, Berkeley and is a certified public accountant. He serves on the board of trustees of the Oakland Museum of California. |
