Matthew Massengill is Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors for Western Digital Corporation (NYSE: WDC). He was named Executive Chairman in October 2005 after having served as Chairman since 2001 and as Chief Executive Officer since 2000. He relinquished the CEO title in October 2005 and remains actively engaged as Executive Chairman.
Under Mr. Massengill's guidance as CEO WD re-emerged as a premier supplier of hard drives to the PC industry and the consumer electronics industry for such products as gaming consoles digital video recorders and handheld media players; achieved the industry's most efficient expense structure; and returned to consistent profitable growth.
Mr. Massengill started at WD as a product engineer in 1985 when the PC was in its earliest stages and WD was playing a key role in the development of hard drive controllers and communications products. He held various engineering and marketing positions and was named Vice President of Marketing for the Personal Storage Division in 1993 after which WD grew from a small supplier of hard drives to the world's largest supplier of drives in the desktop PC market.
From 1997 to 1998 Mr. Massengill served as General Manager of WD's Enterprise Storage business in Rochester Minn. During the period from 1998 to 2000 he served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of all worldwide hard drives operations including research development manufacturing and marketing of the entire product line of WD hard drives and later as Chief Operating Officer of WD with responsibility for worldwide operations and geographies research and development.
An active member of his business and local communities Mr. Massengill currently serves on the boards of directors for technology companies Microsemi Corp. and ViewSonic Corp. and non-profit organizations including: Orange County Technology Action Network (OCTANe) a private corporation comprised of biomedical and technology companies working together to drive innovation and accelerate the growth of the technology business; and THINK Together a charity in Orange County Calif. He is vice chairman of the CEO Roundtable program at the University of California at Irvine.
Before joining WD Mr. Massengill served Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation for three years as a research engineer developing materials and devices for infra-red detectors and imaging systems.
Mr. Massengill received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Purdue University in 1983. He was honored in 1998 with the Outstanding Electrical Engineering Alumni award from Purdue and in 2002 with the Distinguished Engineering Alumni award from the university. |
