Experience-Matt Stein joined Pierce Atwood as a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group in 2006. He represents a broad range of clients with a wide variety of intangible assets and intellectual property related demands. Matt helps his clients initiate, negotiate and finalize successful commercial transactions involving patent, trademark, and copyright ownership and use issues.Representative matters include:Prepare research collaboration and material transfer agreements to help clients develop and commercialize cutting-edge technologies. Assist leading financial services company in executing strategic marketing campaigns by preparing and negotiating marketing services agreements that involve important issues related to trademark and copyright ownership and federal and state privacy regulation. Help a prominent international footwear company successfully transfer copyright, domain name, and foreign and domestic trademark registrations as part of a larger acquisition. Prepare distributorship agreement for the European Union for emerging company. Pursue successful strategy with Maine designer to stop widespread infringement of trademarks and copyrights. Advise clients during trademark selection process by conducting trademark availability search. Prosecute applications for trademark registration.Education Matt received a B.S. degree, summa cum laude, with majors in Ecology & Environmental Sciences and Philosophy from the University of Maine (2003). He earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law (2006). While in law school, Matt was the Executive Editor of the Maine Law Review.Professional Activities Matt is a member of the Intellectual Property section of the American Bar Association.
