Matthew C. McDonald practices in the areas of civil litigation and governmental affairs. He earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. He served on the Editorial Board of the Alabama Law Review from 1983 to 1985, and he was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1985. Mr. McDonald is nationally recognized for his successes in tort reform and has served as counsel for the Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Civil Justice Reform Committee. In 2003, the American Tort Reform Association recognized Mr. McDonald with its Legal Reform Champion distinction, along with other attorneys of note, such as former U.S. Attorneys General Dick Thornburgh and Griffin Bell. Credited by many for his work to put an end to Alabama's reputation as "tort hell," Mr. McDonald’s reform activities also have played a role in the new era of economic development in Alabama. Thanks in part to Mr. McDonald's work in civil justice reform, out-of-state businesses now offer more and better jobs to Alabamians.
