Matthew Heyn Biography :

Matthew C. Heyn is an associate of KTBS, where he specializes in bankruptcy litigation, business litigation, and creditors' remedies. He graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2000, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Economics. Mr. Heyn received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 2003, where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif. At Boalt Hall, Mr. Heyn received the American Jurisprudence Award in Corporations and Commercial Transactions, the Prosser Award in Real Estate Transactions and Law & Economics, and served on the editorial board of Ecology Law Quarterly.

Mr. Heyn has a wide and varied practice, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has assisted in the representation of, among many others, a special litigation trust formed in the chapter 11 cases of National Century Financial Enterprises, Inc., the debtor in the Crescent Jewelers bankruptcy, Kaiser Group International, Inc. as appellate counsel in its bankruptcy case, a secured creditor in the bankruptcy case of Ritter Ranch, the debtor in the Peregrine Systems bankruptcy (see, e.g., 319 B.R. 800 (Bankr. D. Del. 2005)), and Paramount Pictures in several litigation matters. Mr. Heyn is currently working on KTBS's representation of plaintiffs in a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against Enron's former banks. Mr. Heyn's practice includes representing individuals as well as corporations in the context of contested matters in bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings, and related state-court litigation.

Mr. Heyn co-authored "The Shifting Balance of Power Between Lessors and Lessees in Business Reorganization Cases: a Review of New Lease Provisions in the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005" and materials that were presented at the American Legal Institute-American Bankruptcy Institute Seminar in March 2007.
