Mary McDowell is the President and Chief Executive Officer of CitiFinancial with oversight for 15,000 employees and responsibility for managing the 2500-branch network with operations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. In this role, Mary is responsible for managing the CitiFinancial franchise and leading key strategic initiatives.
Mary joined Citi in 1991, serving as Chief Financial Officer for American Health and Life (now CitiAssurance), CitiFinancial, CitiFinancial Mortgage Company, and Citicorp Trust Bank. Prior to joining Citi, Mary spent 11 years with Ernst & Young serving clients in the financial services industry through audit, tax, and consulting services, including due diligence for acquisitions.
In 2003, Mary was named President of CitiFinancial Auto, where she integrated three disparate auto-financing brands Arcadia, Auto One, and Trans South--into the single, powerful CitiFinancial Auto brand. From July 2006, she served as the President and Chief Operating Officer for CitiFinancial North America, with responsibility for managing the operations of the 2,500-branch network. She led key strategic initiatives for CitiFinancial, including the 200-branch expansion in 2006, implementation of the Gateway Branch with Citibank North America, and the cross-sell of the CitiCards Diamond Preferred® credit card. Mary was recently promoted to President and CEO of Citifinancial.
Mary is past Chairwoman of Citi’s Texas Leadership Council, comprised of business heads of Citi businesses located in Texas. She has also served on the vehicle finance advisory boards of American Financial Services Association and Consumer Bankers Association and the Board of Directors of Texas Business and Education Coalition.
Mary was born in Cameron, Texas and graduated Summa cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a BBA. She is a Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Consultant, and a Chartered Life Underwriter.
